Summer kilts

I'm sure it's been hashed over previously, but I was wondering what's "hot" for summer. Or rather what do we exchange that 16 oz wool kilt for that's a little cooler?

I'm also trying to find a good (relatively inexpensive) kilt for yard work and lounging around the back yard in the summer.

What do you all think of Sportkilts and the UK Spartans?

for those hot summer days try a PV kilt they are light enough in both 5yrd and 8yrd,I know a guy who makes them.

I'd avoid the Spartan if anyone else is going to see you; they don't really look anything like a kilt.

The SK Premier line is available in any weight you want, supply your own fabric or one of theirs.
My SK PL is currently under construction and hopefully will be ready for it's debut at the Belmont Kilt night next month.

My PV Kilts are plenty comfortable come summer as well as winter. Yet the wool seems just as comfortable if I am not doing much activity (like hiking). The Kilt is such a universal garment. Enjoy yourself Michael with whatever Kilt you wear.

Can only speak for me here in Arizona...my "lightweights" are my SportKilts, but they're tartan. For yardwork I'd go with Utilikilt Originals. AmeriKilts are also good light weight kilts for summer.

For fancy stuff my 11 ounce lightweight tank from Kathy's Kilts is still cool in the summer.

Heck, even my leather kilts are cool in the summer. While they hold heat in the winter they seem to circulate it in the summer. Go figure.

That's the second or third time I've heard about this Sport Kilt 'Premier' deal, I don't see anything about it on their site though :confused:

I have a UK spartan, and it is the most comfortable thing I have ever worn. Basically its like wearing naked. However, while I wear it around the house, I have to agree that I would never wear it in public, as it does seem more like a skirt than a kilt.

I'd recommend the lightweight polyester kilt made by Mercy Clothing Co. Looks like a reasonable representation of a Scottish wool kilt but has only about half the number of pleats and is very light material.

I've worn a 13oz tank in the dead of a humid New England summer with no regrets. I have a feeling that wool breathes better than PV, but I'm just guessing.
