Surprising comment
Today my daughter (22 mo. old) and I went out to lunch. Afterwards I was putting her in her car seat when a fellow driving by stopped and asked where I was from? (I was wearing a SWK Heavyweight box-pleated BW, Wyvern leatherworks sporran, a rescue belt, and a navy blue t-shirt with flip-flops.) I told him I was from Charlotte. In a deep Scottish accent he said he was from Scotland. He said "I like the look." I politely told him thank you and he drove off. It was neat to hear that from someone who is Scottish.
Just thought the rabble would like to know.

See??? Even some dyed-in-the-wool Scots approve of flip flops. That's cool...

Thank goodness it wasn't the kilt police! Sounds like a great experience.

Hold on, I'm not so sure that was a compliment. I have heard that this is a way of Scottish humor. For example, "those cream hose and flat cap there are looking good."
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…

I would take his word at face value. What's not to like about it?
That's a neat experience!

I've had a very similar experience, when I graduated from college a Scot told me he liked my outfit.

I've encountered a few times, a Scot complimenting me on my kilted attire. I'm sure it was complimentary. The flip flops are an adopted custom to the local environment. Kilt On!

Sounds sincere to me too. I live in a heavy tourist area and not at all uncommon to have Scottish tourists come up to me when I'm kilted. They are always pleased to see someone kilted.
Back when I still fit my Utilikilts they'd marvel at the adaptation/Scottish Jeans. Guess Utilikilts are more common back in Scotland these days.
Had to be sincere. No other reason to pull over.
