Family patterns in Aran sweaters? That's the first I've heard of that concept. My mother never mentioned it when she knit them. They're beautiful sweaters, though. Sadly, I've pretty much lost the opportunuity to wear them since I moved to Texas.

I've heard of the legend of the various pattens of Aran sweaters being used to identify the bodies of drowned fishermen, but the "family patterns" is a new one on me as well.

I have one I wear on occasion, but they can get hot very quickly!

    Cheers,

    Todd

This sounds to me like family patterns that may have been used for the legendary purposes you're talking about, Todd, but re-marketed to call them "clan patterns" to make folks have a new reason to buy them.
