    SWK Economy and Thrifty kilts

    Hey yall,

I own a SportKilt currently, but I'm looking for a cheap second kilt I can beat up. I've been looking at the StillWater kilts, and the Economy and Thrifties look good, any thoughts on them or advice? Also, any other cheap kilts yall can recommend?

Stillwater Thrifty is great. I have three. Being so inexpensive it's not a tragedy if you slop spaghetti sauce or motor grease on it. Apart from tossing it in the wash, you can also toss it away and get another without breaking the bank.

The pleats are nice, but the material is a bit on the thinner side. If you live in a windy area, you might want one of their weightier models. Other than that, they are nice kilts.

Are they as light as a sport kilt?

No they're not. They handle the wind a lot better, as well. I have been wearing min a lot lately, as Colorado is starting to get hot. They're lightweight, but they do stand up to the wind fairly well, as long as you have a nice heavy pin on the front. I have a brass Irish Brigade pin from my trip to Antietem last summer which works like a charm. And truth be told, I think the SWK thrifty's are better values than Sport Kilts. I was really unhappy with my SK. I'd be willing to pay $40 or maybe $50 for an SK, but $120 for what I got? I will continue to buy their accessories, but I'll not buy another of their kilts, especially when I can get a USA Kilt for the same price, or 4 (FOUR!!) SWK Thrifty's for the same price! So I say, get yourself a few SWK's. They're excellent, especially for the price. You can't beat them.

I have an SWK Thrifty, and an SWK Standard. Both do very well. The Thrifty's pleats are not sewn to the fell, and are shallow, it is a velcro closure, and some people perceive it as a gathered skirt. The standard behaves like a kilt, is a kilt of acrylic fabric, sewn down to the fell, with decent pleat depth and swing, and holds up very well in the wind along the Atlantic coast. BTW, when you do order from Jerry, prepare to run for the door within seconds of hitting the "submit" button. His service is very fast.
