    Tartan Day Idea for Work

Occured to me today that maybe, with advance notice, I could at least get some coworkers to wear something tartan on Tartan Day April 6th.

So, I sent out this email to everyone at all four locations of our agency...about 70 people.

Used "Advance Notice of Tartan Day" as the subject line.

Had no responses - which is unusual - but a lot of folks had today off. So, we shall see if any coworkers wear any tartan garments next week.

I started with he link to the Tartan Day website.

    http://www.tartanday.org/national.htm

The United States Congress has declared Friday April 6th National
Tartan Day. April 6th was chosen since it is the date of the Scottish
Declaration of Independence back in 1320; part of that document said,
"We fight not for glory, no riches, no honors, but for freedom alone,
which no good man gives up except with his life."

Tartan day also celebrates that the wearing of tartans and kilts and
the speaking of Gaelic is no longer outlawed as it once was.

The American Declaration of Independence was modeled on the Scottish
Declaration of Independence. Almost half the signers of the American
Declaration of Independence were of Scottish ancestry. Nine of the
thirteen governors of the original thirteen states were of Scottish
    ancestry.

Tartan Day recognizes the achievements and contributions of Americans
of Scottish descent to the founding, and growth, of the United States.

So, plan ahead and celebrate by wearing something tartan next Friday.

    Ron

We shall see if anything happens. Since the chance of kilted support is nil, at least I can get some tartan support...maybe...

Anyone else game to try at their work?

No one at work is going to care that I spend Tartan Day in my kilt. It is because the office will be close for Good Friday.

I thought I was going to have to apply for an exemption to our dress code so I could wear a kilt to work on April 6. As it turns out, I'm on a new schedule and work a mid-shift on April 5 - 6. The dress code is suspended on mid-shifts, so I'll get to be kilted without any problem at all.

    Excellent

You may also want to explain that by "Tartan" you mean "Plaid". Most people outside the "kilt world" (ESPECIALLY in the US) don't know what tartan is, but they do know what "plaids" are. You may also want to suggest people wear it on Thursday because (as KT mentioned) Friday is good Friday and many places may be closed.

Thanks for reminding me that our boss usually closes the place down early on Good Friday....I protest, I'm not a believer in that faith, but he sends me home anyway....I'll take the time if he insists.

Gives me time for an afternoon hike...kilted of course.

    And why not?

I think that I UK would be nice. But only if it was the only kilt you owned. As for me I can not wear a kilt at work. I have to wear the uniform.

I think he said "no UK's" b/c it's TARTAN day (and they don't offer tartans).
