Tartan Trews...........

Greetings All,

I am looking at getting a pair of tartan trousers made in the future,

A few questions on the trews:

1) Anyone here have a pair?

2) Do you know where I can get a pair made?

3) Anyone have a particular company/ maker that they were happy with or not happy with?

4) What style of trews did you get?

Trousers and trews are two different things.
Trews are on the left:

Trousers are just like any other britches, except they're tartan.

Which are you hoping to get?

The tartans museum can get them for you. I think they are made by Locharran. They have 4 different styles ranging from the regular trousers to the fishtail, military style. When I get a pair, I'm going for the Argyle cut. It has a higher waist than the trousers. You can still wear them with kilt jackets.

There's usually a fair number of military surplus ones on ebay if you're not fussy about the tartan...

I have a couple of pairs, military style with single seam.

There are quite a number of suppliers of trews, some of whom make their presence known here.

You might be interested to see that trews may also be made cut on the bias, much like they were in times gone by. I am sorry about the quality of this picture, but it shows the trews belonging to a good friend of mine that recently were made by his tailor. They are bias-cut, in a Stewart tartan. They are extremely fine looking! Maybe JS will send me a better pic.

Thanks for the picture, Sandy. It's difficult to tell, but it appears his jacket is not cut for a kilt - which I definitely prefer to the look of trews with kilt jackets. I also like the look of the buckle and strap shoes and never would have thought to combine them with trousers of any sort. Your friend is very stylish indeed.

I look forward to better pictures if any are provided.
