I was walking through the complex where I live (a grouping of about 20 or so A-frames), and was approaching two guys on the driveway. I recognized one as being a neighbor, but I had never really met him, except one breig encounter when I brought over a mistakenly delivered package. I'm not quite sure where he's from, but my first impression was Australia (I'm pretty good at placing accents and dialects). I was wearing my UK Mocker. As I walk up, he says "That's an interesting kilt you have there."

We start talking a bit about kilts, and I mention that I have six kilts of various styles. He asks "So, did you just get off work?" I wasn't sure exactly what he was getting at, so he asks if the kilt is a part of a uniform. So I told him, no, I wear them all the time, they're more comfortable than trousers. He seemed rather amazed by that, but also interested.

Ran into a guy at the cutting table at Jo-Ann Fabrics the day before that was interested in the Workmans I was wearing. Maybe there'll be a few more kilt wearers in this isolated little corner of the USA.

Interesting Kilt comments. Glad to hear that your uniform of everyday Kilt wearing is starting to make its impact.

One question Nick, when you took the mis directed package to the one chap, were you Kilted?

Regardless Nick those small steps are what it takes, good for you.

I was at a Chamber of Commerce function last night and one of the guys there came up and said, "DAMN, I wish I'd worn my kilt!" Others at the event had seen him in it before, a Workman, and he said it'd be the last time he didn't wear his kilt because he thought nobody else would be wearing one.

Also, I had been telling my chiropractor for over a year that more and more guys were wearing kilts ... he'd always thought I was blowing smoke. Yesterday, soon as I walked in, he said, "Chris, you were right, I met another construction guy in a kilt last week!" He told me that this fellow was a remodeler and that he had made kilts his uniform for work too.

I used to be the only guy in Burleson, Texas in a kilt ... that is definitely changing. I do have to say that it is bitter sweet, though.

I bought my first kilt a couple years ago at a Scottish festival and wore it home. I parked my 1952 MG and walked in the house. My wife met me at the door without a word. Our 14 year old grandson happened to be there, took a long look and commented "Now, this is different!"

I think this relates back to the old...

"More men would wear kilts if only more men wore kilts" scenario.

I've never had the "that's different" comment. Actually it is different than the standard mens daily uniform... it just takes a bit more gumption to wear.

johnnym, welcome to our kilted korner of the web. WK is basically where I grew up ('57-'79). Which festival did you get your 1st kilt at?
