They love kilts in San Francisco!! (No jokes please)
I was with my wife running all around San Fran yesterday. I wore by Black Watch kilt (Its the starrynightrecords one for like 30 bucks-It ain't bad at all-Pleats held all day in and out of the car.) You would have thought I was a rock star. People were walking up with cell phones snapping pictures. A group of tourists backed me up against a wall-It was just thumbs up everywhere!! San Francisco values at least includes appreciation of kilts!!!

No Jokes Please..... the power of suggestion, "You're Killing Me(Smalls) NorCal Piper"
Imagine if your were't running around with your wife,
you might be just running for your.......!
Or could suggest a different meaning to, "out" on Parade.
Sorry, I couldn't resist and not ment to offend!
Glad it was a great day for you, Kilted!

Jamie- calm down, man! Don't get all pithed off.
I know... bad jokes were discouraged. So to keep on topic- it was a great kilted day for me, too. I had a wedding that was beautiful, and went out to dinner with my wife in formal wear. I got more or less the same reaction- people wanting pics and such. It sounds like a good day all the way around for a few of us!

San Francisco in a kilt
N.C.P.
Thank you for the report on San Fran. It has not changed much. My only visit there was in 1975. I took on a July day in my 16 oz Wool kilt, fully kitted for a friends wedding. (I was one of five kilted at the wedding) Everywhere I went people were snapping photographs. Several had asked what movie was being filmed in the area. I found out later that I was not the only one running around in tartan. My MacNeil of Barra Ancient looked close enough to Black Watch to the untrained eye. The ones in Black Watch were on a set nearby for a "Highlands" type film. I ran into a group of them as I was leaving, and they asked if I was an "extra"! Only in California. We had good cheer at a local restaurant, they headed back to the set for evening filming, I headed east to Arkansas, where I was stationed at the time.

I am glad to hear it hasn't changed in the last few years since I was there. That's the same response I had every time I visited The City (to those of us who were born and raised in the Bay Area, it is known as San Francisco or The City,...never call it Frisco.)
One indication it is a kilt friendly town, is the fact that Celtic Craft Centre who are on the Royal Mile in Edinburgh, chose to open their second store in San Francisco near Fisherman's wharf.

I've always wanted to wear a kilt to Nirvana in the Castro but since it's usually MacKevlar and myself it would be a little "weird" (but only for a short time), I think the restauranteers would get a tremendous kick out of it.
Nirvana is a Burmese Fusion restaurant so ya know, excellent food, great drinks.
CT - the HBC or XMTS would be my two top picks
