Thrift stores, Higland games, I get deals wherever I go!

My wife and I went to the USS games today. We did some shopping, and I (again) made out like a bandit.

I got 2 kilts- one for me and one for a buddy. Scottish National for me, and a MacDonald for him.
They are viscose/acetate, pleated to sett, and mine has 28 DEEP(about 2 inches deep with 1/2 inch reveal) pleats.

I also got a Prince Charlie and waistcoat, in dark blue (possibly navy blue... depends on the light). The vendor only had one, and it was my size, and the price was far too good to pass up... $100 US!!!

I bought all three items at the same vendor, and I talked the very pleasant and helpful lady working there into taking $70 off the total for all three!

I'm going back tomorrow with a different friend tomorrow. He's been wanting a kilt for a while now, and he has tomorrow off, so we're gonna see if my luck holds and I can score him a deal too.

I too was at the USS games and I got a couple of kilt pins, and also a couple of treed jackets to convert into kilt jackets. We probably walked right past each other. Yaish and I met up at 11 at one of the beer venders, (there were like three!) we stood around and shot the breeze waiting to see if anyone else showed up, but no-one approached us, nor did we see anyone that looked like they might be looking for another X-Marker. I guess we should have had a better meeting time.

I looked at a PV kilt in a couple of tartans, but they were all pleated to the nothing, which was probably why they were such a low price.

Good to hear that you got a good deal.

My wife and I wandered from beer vendor to beer vendor until about 11:15, then we gave up. The time was fine, but I think next time we need to come up with a more specific place to meet.

On a good note, my wife and I happened to be standing near a young man (late teens, early twenties) who was trying on his first kilt. We complimented him on it, my wife teased him a bit, and I referred him here to xmarks. Hopefully he'll join up.

Hopefully the next few days will add a few more to the rabble since I'm doing my best to get my friends and aquaintences kilted.

That's a good idea... or maybe a flag like they use for foreign tour groups at Disneyland...

This is why it's good to have an X-Marks t-shirt or embroidered patch!

    Sounds like some good deals.

I can't stress the importance of deciding a meeting place and time for X Markers wishing to meet at a Highland Games. It makes a world of difference and I have always been very happy to shake hands with another X Marker.

    Cheers
