Today I met Hamish
In addition to some other wonderful X-Markers at the Harpenden Highland Gathering north of London.
The festival itself was nice, if a bit small and not overwrought with things Scottish (it felt that outside of the pipe bands, the majority of kilted folk were the group from X-Marks).
It was here that I met the man (the Legend?), along with two Davids, a Derrick and a Jed (I should say that aside from Hamish and myself, the others were accompanied by their charming wives. Jed's was even it a 21st Century pin-stripe kilt herself). There were several cameras about, so I'm sure some pictures will be posted soon.
While certainly any man with 63 kilts might be a bit of a story, it is clear that the roots of Hamish's fame and notoriety are not on account of this, but rather his charm and and all-around damn-decentness. None of the fantastic gentlemen I met today had any need to make an out of place American feel so welcome, but they did. I went today to see some sights and meet some fellow X-Markers, but I ended up meeting friends.
I am a happy, happy person tonight. Thanks all.

Lucky man… The hotter it gets over here, the more seriously I start thinking about moving over there.
It's 102 in Denver now. That's not right.

As far as goals in my life, I wish to meet Hamish face to face. I feel that he and I are kindred spirits in more ways that Kilt wearing. His basic philosophy on life and general disposition seems very compatiable to my ideals.

It's 95 F here right now with a heat index of 102 F and 46% humidity. If you go outside and just stand still in the shade you're soaked with sweat in a few minutes. Makes me wish I were there also.
What a great event to meet fellow XMarkers. Meeting Hamish is truely a honor. He is indeed a gentleman's gentleman. That is more than evident by his posts and video's.

I would consider the opportunity of my wife and I meeting Hamish as being one of the highlights of visiting that part of the world. I'm glad for you that you had the chance. One day I hope to post the same.
Cheers! Bill

Sounds like a very successful XMarks meet-up. I envy you meeting Hamish and the others... perhaps someday I'll be as lucky. I'm glad you had such a great time!

That extra circulation of air around the knees probably helped, but I wouldn't rush over at the moment as I checked out 44 degrees on the thermometer this afternoon, so it's not that much different ....... for a change!!
