Trouble

I' am having a problem deciding whether to buy a Great kilt or a Ancient Kilt from CC. I don't have alot of money and would like it in Macleod of Lewis tartan if anyone has any advice about the different styles and any pictures they could post it would be most appreciated

That is going to have to be a decision you will have a hard time making. A great kilt may limit your uses while on the other hand a conventional kilt may not fill the bill for what your needing. Welcome to the world of kilting!

Get the ancient and get it in PV that way you save the most money, and get that old look, while remaining cool in the heat. If you get questioned, tell them you had a good poly crop this year and you had it woven into your plaid....

Their "ancient kilt" resembles nothing from history, and is based on the "kilts" worn in the Braveheart movie. The "great kilt" - or belted plaid - is more historically accurate as it is a garment that actually existed...!

Get the kilt and a couple of extra yards of the same tartan to wear as a half-plaid. That way, you can have the look of a great kilt, with the felxibilty of not having to tote all that extra fabric around on occasions when you want to wear just the kilt.

the PV is what i was drawn toward mostly, but CC has this "Homespun" material and it says it is 45% wool, also is cheaper.

The homespun is a nice fabric, a rather loose feeling weave. IMO it makes a pretty nice belted plaid.

It's not as wide as the PV (maybe 54 inches versus 60). So if you're tall, it may not be as versatile. I'm 5' 11.75" (182 cm) and it's not quite long enough to make a hood with the top portion; but otherwise I can wear it 'most any usual way.

After looking through the Clearance section i actually found a Phillibeg in Macleod of lewis tartan for $49!!! with the cheater pleats thats only $100...Score!
