UK workman and the Carhart folks

So today being my "off Friday" I'm out running a myriad of errands one of which is trying to find a new pedestal post for my boat and one of the local sporting goods stores has this merchandising trailer in the lot from Carhart. For those who aren't familiar Carhart has produced work clothes since the 1890's and in particular brown duck overalls and jackets. Here I am wearing my UK workman which could pass as a Carhart garment anywhere. The guys in the trailer are all excited and asked to take my picture to send back to Carhart. I explained that even though the kilt looks like a "Carhart" it is a Utilikilt made in Seattle. One of the guys wanted one so I gave him a card and told him about XMarks....I did get an arm load of goodies from the guys, bandannas, a couple of ball caps some carabiners and the like...you never know, maybe new marriage of companies could come about.

I had a "Carhart" workmans from Utilikilts a few years back that I regretfully had to sell. I used to get asked if it was a Carhart brand quite a bit.

I really do want to get another Workmans Utilikilt, but this time in black.

Carhart is very popular here, si I get the Carhart question with mine a lot. I even started calling it my Carhart kilt myself. The material is very close to what Carhart uses in most of their garments, though I think the Utilikilt duck is a little stiffer.

For those scratching their heads here's a pic

Utilikilt calls it Caramel. I've found it also makes a passable "Irish saffron"

Here in the canyonlands the color is a dead on "camo" for the Navajo Sandstone. Note how closely the color matches the riverbottom sands.

And, just my opinion, but I think its the most "bulletproof" of the UK workman's colors...through they're most likely all the same.

And, I think Ham has a real antique in that color...maybe he could get rich selling it to the Carhart museum....like he'd part with it...

I think it'd be great to see them a little more mainstream like that.

Great to hear such a positive response.
I think the Freedom Kilts Cargo workweights would also fit in with the Carhart ethic.

Although I can't call my Work Weight fabrics "Carhart" because that is a brand name, my fabric comes off the same loom as Carhart.

I carry it in 5 different colors Tan, Carrhardt Gold (Saffron), Sand Grey, Olive Grey, and Black.

It is 10oz. per linear yard in weight. Wears like steel. But because it it 100% Cotton it will require a periodic touch-up with an iron.
