Unknown Uniform
I came across this photo of what appears to be an Officer in a Scottish Regiment. I am unfamiliar with the uniform and though that it might be from a Canadian Regiment. I know we have a very knowledgeable group out here so can anyone identify the uniform in question?

You sure it's not from a pipe band? Looks like a mix between English and Scottish...

It's a unique look isn't it..... I believe that musicians wear spats and horse hair sporrans. It looks like a mismatch combination outfit to me.
I assume the kilt tartan is Black watch as it's so dark.
Anyone care to make an educated guess?

Neither the British, or Canadian Armies permit beards, so he's probably with a Pipe Band.

What did they used to call that type of shoe back in the 60's when little girls wore them? There was a name for them.
showing a bit more knee than needed too.
Convener, Georgia Chapter, House of Gordon (Boss H.O.G.)
Where 4 Scotsmen gather there'll usually be a fifth.

Jesus! If he was in the now prevelant 'Scots Regiment' I'm sure they'd kick him out. Also the Black Watch was disbanded and amalgamanted into the Scottish Regiment so the likelyhood of him being in their regiment it very low indeed.
The Irish gave the Scots the bagpipes as a joke, the Scots still haven't got the joke.

They are called buckle brogues and were the standard shoe when I started wearing highland dress. Gillie brogues came later mostly through hire shops and ordinary brogues were for daywear only.
This picture shows what I mean

I see a Maltese cross below his medals which might give a clue but as others have said it isn't any regimental uniform. Beards, by the way, British soldiers in Afghanistan are now required to grow beards. Seems the locals don't respect them otherwise. They used to get respect in other ways but like buckle brogues time changes everything.

I wasn't suggesting that he is a member of the Black Watch (White Hackle in his feather bonnet is a dead givaway) just that he may be wearing the government sett.
The sporran has five gold Tassels? Don't some sporrans have certain configurations to indicate the regiment they are associated with?

I'm convinced he's with a pipe band, or that is his own personal outfit he put together himself.
