USA KILT JONES and something very strange has happened.

    Hey Y'all-
I decided that since Rocky is going to make our adopted Iraqi war vet a Black watch Semi-Trad (Thanks again Ken!!), that I would go ahead and get a casual kilt made for myself. I have a reason...Something very strange has happened.

Believe it or not, I only own 2 custom kilts (An assortment of off-the -rack as well). An 8 yard Isle of Skye tank, and a Matt Newsome Box Pleat. Both fit like a glove, and are effortless to wear. i also own 2 PV kilts from Scotland Kilt Company of which I've worn almost daily. I ABSOLUTELY love the material and durability of these kilts, and for 50$-I just couldn't go wrong and have been 100% satisfied....Until now.

I wore Matt's creation 6 days in a row. i just couldn't stop....On the 7th day, I went back to my PV and I noticed something. the fit wasn't just right like my Box Pleat. I never noticed it until after wearing MAtt' kilt. The fitted design was so awesome (Or maybe Matt puts anti-cheap kilts on ebay powder in them), but I was just getting annoyed. I thought a 2nd day would aleve this issue, but no...I HAVE to have PV kilts for the amount of stuff that I do during the day that might be hazardous to a regular kilt!!!

So I've ordered an Isle of Skye Casual from rocky this morning. i'm hoping that a fitted casual is going to repair this problem I'm having. If it does, then Caledonia tartan casual and an Albanach is next. Stay tuned-Josh

Does stand to reason doesn't it, a tailored garmet would be more comfortable than off the rack. Matt's box pleats are a joy to wear. I have three.

Like you, I have recently ordered (ahead of you by a week) a USAK casual. I have a USAK semi trad Stewart Black which is my work horse. As a tailored kilt it fits so much better than the other off the rack kilts I have. The craftmanship is superb. I wanted something more summery and picked out the Caledonia tartan for this casual. I also thought I would try the jeans waist on this one.

I'm sure we both will be order a few more casuals from Rocky before the summer is over.

The same thing happened to me after I got my first commissioned kilt from Barb T. I am at the moment at the Kentucky Scottish Weekend where there is a boothwith a very cool UK in my size at a decent price, but my heart just isn't in it. Still saving up for my next tank.

    Regards,
    Rex.

Yeah, I was very happy with my off-the-rack kilts until that fateful day when I got a package from Barb T. I still wear my off-the-rack kilts, but there's nothing like a tank!

Amen! I find the same with the trousers I wear, they just don't have that little extra personalization that makes wearing anything a joy.

There's no question that a bespoke garment of any kind is going to "spoil" you for "off-the-rack". The great thing about the kiltmakers we know through this forum is that you can get quality, made to measure kilts, done by people who really care about the quality of what they do...and you can get them in a range of costs and fabric, suitable for a range of uses.
Spoiled? Most definitely. Glad of it? Absolutely!

I decided a while back that my next kilt would not be an off the peg, and would be of wool tartan in the proper weave and weight range. I've considered a box pleated kilt rather than a traditional; I might go that way.

I have also set about altering the wool SWK kilt to fit me better, even though it is not made from the same weave and yarn as used in traditional kilts.

I've just returned from sea and I haven't been able to catch up with all the posts. What does your vet still need? I may have some things to send along.
