Visiting Boston (with a Kilt !)

    Hi All,

I'll be in Boston next week along with a handful of other businesses representing the Highlands and Islands of Scotland visiting the MIT.
If anyone is familiar with the area can you make any recommendations on places to go (or avoid !). Looks like we're fully scheduled during the days we're there (Wed,Thu & Fri) but may get a chance in the evenings to get out and about and to see some of the city.
I'll be taking my kilt with me although I'm not sure how much of an opportunity I'll have to wear it (are the Bostonians kilt friendly ?) and will probably take one of my 'Sgian Brews' rather than a bladed Sgian rather than risk any trouble with security.

    Thanks,

    Rab

Don't know Boston, but do know you should order some Boston Scrod for dinner if at all possible. Fish that melts in your mouth.

I was in Boston in August and had not problems going about kilted. Perhaps now that Andrew is back from his walk, he can recommend some good places to visit or for dinner.

If you're going to be at MIT, be sure to check in at Cambridge Brewing Co., just around the corner at One Kendall Square. Good food, and good beer.

Boston is a very kilt-friendly city! I've worn the kilt here for three years, with no problems.

If you like modern Irish folk music you should hit the Black Rose which is right near Fanuel Hall. While it is a bit touristy the music is great, there are a lot of locals as well, and you are guaranteed to get a good reception when you show up in a kilt.

I never have problems in Boston or Cambridge kilted.
Must see harvard Sq. a pint at Grendals and/or John Harvards Brew house is worth it.
Do I smell a kilt Night?
Keep me posted I will be in the city next week for the Chiefs of Police convention.

I'm back, but I don't yet have a place to live. I spent too much money on my hike, and need to work for a week or two before I can cough up for first, last, security, and fee for an apartment. Erg, too much money to think about.

Boston is very kilt friendly. In fact all of New England is. I wear my Utilikilts most of the time with no problems. and have seen a number of other men kilted and out and about this summer in New Hampshire and Maine. I also have had a lot of people ask were to get a kilt. There is growing interest, at least in this part of the country.

Thanks for all the recommendations, looks like I'll definitely wear my kilt in the evenings, now, I wonder if I can get away with wearing the kilt at the MIT meetings, briefings and seminars
