Vote for an "X Marks Clan Plant Badge"

While X Marks the Scot is certainly not a traditional clan we certainly have a lot to be proud of in our great fellowship.

It has been suggested that in addition to the X Marks the Scot tartan and our stylish Saltire badge we should adopt a "Clan Plant Badge". Long before specific tartan was used to identify family, friends, and allies; clan members would wear a sprig of a particular plant in their cap for identification. To this day loyal clansmen and women will sport a sprig of their clan's plant behind thier cap badge.

In a previous discussion a particular plant has been put forth as a worthy candidate for an X Marks the Scot.com clan plant badge. This plant has many uses, it is hardy, flourishes everywhere, spreads, it is bright, it is something easily obtained, it bears one of the colors of the X Marks the Scot tartan, it is a plant for everyone rather than the few, and it can even be seen as aluding to the Rampant Lion of one of the Scottish Flags...

    The dandelion!

Here is what Wikipedia has to say about them:

So please vote if you would like to adopt the dandelion as our forum's plant badge.

    Cheers

Sounds great. I vote for the dandelion, especially since there doesn't seem to be an alternative that people like

I vote for the dandelion. They're tough, will thrive anywhere, and hard to kill off. Reminds me of the ancient Scottish clans

Speaking of wikipedia, is there an Xmarks article on wikipedia? If not, there should be.

I thought, and still think this is PERFECT.

    Dandelions are Forever

At least I'd be able to get one from my lawn anytime--getting barley, or some exotic herb would be more problematical. And historically, surely one of the necessary attributes of a plant badge was you had to be able to get one when you needed it.

I vote for the dandelion also, as long as we call it the dandelion or Taraxacum officinale, but not the French "pissenlit" (wet the bed).
