A Walker tartan kilt ...wanted

A friend in Chi-town(Chicago so ya know) wants a Walker kilt but I don't know of any kiltmakers nearby that might have such a beast.
Any help will be appreciated.

CT - laquer thinner and a sliced-open finger don't mix well ...

My next kilt will be a Walker Hunting for my Mom's side of the family. I've been looking around and it appears that none of the Walker tartans are that readily available. Most that I have seen are 3-4 months out and about $500+

for an 8 yard or $450+ for a 5 yard.

I'd like a Walker hunting myself. The reason that the Walker tartans aren't that common is that they were designed in the early 1990's by or for a man named Robert Walker Hawks from Tennessee. I know that at one point they were restricted to him by copyright. However, both STA and House of Tartan show that the Walker hunting is not restricted now.

The reason there are no real Walker tartans is because of the heritage of the name. The Walkers were not from the Highlands. For example, my own branch is from Newcastle. Associated with the weaving trade, there are two stories, one being that the walkers were the ones who "walked" the fullers earth into the fabrics as a part of compressing the wool fibers. Another states that they were the ones who walked the length of the looms attending to the bobbins. When the Walkers used tartans later, the patterns were those of allied clans. The Tennessee tartan is no more the official Walker Tartan than would be a coat of arms that anyone would design for their own family unit. I did find it interesting that there appears to be another Walker on the forum with a coat of arms that is almost identical to the one used by my family since the 1600's.

The two Walker tartans were designed by Robert Walker Hawks of TN who is still active in the Scottish community.

These tartans would be available by special weave. Tell your friend that I'm happy to help him if he wants a box pleated kilt. Refer him to my web site http://kilts.albanach.org

Other tartans associated with the Walker family that are more readily available are Stewart and MacGregor.

Hi,
I'm a noobee so what do I know but I've found 4 "Walker Tartans" so far.
There's the Newlands Walker Clan Tartan, Walker Family Tartan, Walker Family Dress Tartan and the Walker Hunting Modern. But I've only looked a little on Google.

If I had to choose one for my own it would be the Hunting.
