Wear Your Welsh Cilts

I just wanted to remind everyone that March 1 is St. David's Day, the patron saint of Wales. It will be the perfect day to wear you cilt in celebration of all things Welsh. I plan to wear my Edwards cilt in its debut appearance.

Or, you may always wear a leek and/or daffodill, both symbols of Wales:

The leek is known to have been displayed as a Welsh emblem in 1536 and in Henry V, Shakespeare acknowledged this as an ancient custom. One legend tells of a battle between the Welsh and the Saxons fought in a field of leeks. At some time in the past, the leek was an important part of the diet but it is not commonly eaten today. It is delicious when part of the traditional leek and potato soup.

The daffodil has no such claim to literary and historical distinction. It has become the more favoured emblem of late, however, since some people find that it makes a more attractive buttonhole on St. David's day . Daffodils and new-born lambs herald the summer in Wales.

I have a hospital appointment tomorrow (St. David's Day) and will certainly wear my Brithwe Dewi Sant - St. David's tartan cilt to it.

Two weeks ago, at an appointment in the same department, my Chocolate Workman's Utilikilt caused quite a stir in Reception and in the waiting area. Even a nurse and the Consultant who took the biopsies made similar comments - that it would be easier all round if men came for Urology appointments in kilts rather than trousers!!! They have a point!!

God bless you! I'm an Edwards (mother's maiden name), so I'll be cheering for you. I have to fit one of the those Edwards tartan Cilts into my budget too (maybe use a Welsh Guards leek badge as a Cilt/Kilt pin with it!)

I've got the Edwards Cilt on today and decided to dress up, so I wore my Crail jacket and waistcoat. I've also got on a tie, a rare sight indeed!

I get a picture taken and post it this evening. I can't upload it here at work.

It was also my mother's maiden name, which is why I got it. I've got no idea whether my Edwards is actually Welsh or not because I haven't been able to trace back very far yet. But I figured I've got the surname connection, so why not.
