Weekend, sans culottes

Morning, or good day as the case may be
Got a fresh cuppa and my morning cigar, sitting here thinking over the day to come. It’s day three of a weekend “sans culotte”. May not sound like so big a deal to some of you but for me, it is a rare pleasure to be kilted for so long at one time. Don’t know what the day will entail yet but I will do it pant-less whatever it is.
Yesterday was a hoot! Wife and I went to the NC Shrimp Festival and spent most of the day examining exhibits of the shrimp industry, various vendors and stuffing ourselves with shrimp prepared in just about every way you can imagine, even found room for a funnel cake.
Now, I told you that story so I could tell you this one…
Throughout the day, I only saw ‘the look’ one time and had only two people say anything at all to me and that was just to ask ‘where my band had been during the parade?’. I was attempting a rock wall climb and one 60 something lady asked my wife the ‘what’s under there’ question. Then stayed to watch. Not bad when you consider that commercial fishermen in general and shrimpers in particular are a very close knit, very conservative (read that redneck) crowd.
Oh. Friday night? A very quiet evening. I attended the school fall carnival where my wife teaches, the kids all loved the kilt, a quiet dinner for two in a local restaurant and a visit to our favorite watering hole (biker/topless club) afterward.
The reason for this post? To express something to my, perhaps, less outgoing fellows. Clothes, in this case the kilt, don’t make the man but a man that is confident will carry the clothes without problem.

It seems that most guys have to experience this to believe it. We're so used to trying to fit into the crowd that such a small thing as wearing a kilt is something most men wouldn't dream of doing.

I didn't have too much of a problem with wearing my kilt the first few times. (A few butterflies.) I didn't have this support group but I guess I'm enough of a mean prick that I don't much care what some stranger thinks of me. I've always valued my opinion above other's when it comes to my appearance. (And most other things.)

I'm in redneck country too. It seems to me that the people who do comment on my kilt, even if they screw up what they're trying to say, are sincerely interested and supportive.

What you are experiencing is very natural, it will take time to where you will not be feeling a little out of the ordinary. Sort of like driving a car, funny at first, but old hat real soon. Confidence is what it is all about, and you my friend are building it rapidly! Congratulations!

I've gotten to the point that I no longer pay attention to see what other peoples reactions are, I just go about my business. Sunday a lady asked me if I was dressed for halloween or did I wear the kilt all the time? I replied I wore as much as possible. She nodded her head and said I thought so, you look like you know what your doing. Made my day.
