The weird people strike again.
Earlier today, I threw on an SWK thrifty kilt and went out to run some errands. I'm at the grocery store stocking up, and a man approaches me. He says "You shouldn't be wearing a dress. I answer "Huh?". He proceeds to tell me all about the verses in the bible that say men shouldn't wear womens clothes. I listened with a frown on my face for a few minutes, then spouted some gibberish back at him. I guess he figured I didn't speak English. He walked away shaking his head.

But most depictions of early Christians have them wearing an unbifurcated garment - albeit a robe rather than a kilt.

Oh good heavens! So Scots and other kilt wearing men are without exception bad Christians? Who knew?
Self-righteous *and* daft, all at once, that one.

The proscription is in Deuteronomy, so that would make it Jewish law - a bit older. So, you see here that, at the time, women were required to wear négligées and men were required to wear towels.
At any moment you must be prepared to give up who you are today for who you could become tomorrow.

I had that happen once. I told him to open a history book before he opened his mouth. You sound less stupid that way. He said "The only history book I need is the Bible." I told him to find me ONE passage where Jesus wore pants.

Don't feel too bad, ChromeScholar...I had a guy I know tell me, when after he learned I wore kilts: "If I ever caught any of my boys wearing a dress, I'd kill him."
It's just ignorance. So don't worry or fret over it at all.

Ah, we're all just trying to muddle through life as best we can. Doesn't mean we can't laugh at each other and ourselves.
