In ( I thnk) a Shakespeare play there is a line which is something like, "The first thing we do is kill all the lawyers". I dont advocate ( no pun intended !) that as I am a family lawyer, but it is right that there is no money in the law any more, unless you are a high-flying commercial lawyer or a libel lawyer etc. The average high street lawyer here in the UK who depends on public funding ( legal aid) is having a hard time making a living.

I am sure all of our kited friends will be very sympathetic and send me lots of money !

Alan, do you really expect me to believe solicitors/lawyers are hard up? I've seen the sort of cars you drive!

Having said that, I've been told that you only really start raking it in if you have a partnership agreement. If you only work for them, the pay isn't all that good.

Alan,

You and I know each other of old, so you are well aware that I do not have two beans to rub together and, even if I did I would need them myself. After all, a chap has to be clothed ....... and kilts do not grow on trees, you know!

(But wouldn't it be wonderful if they did?!!!)

Hi Ham/Alan

Are you two acquainted? I hadn't realised.

Al

Oh, there is much that you have not realised Al.!!!

Yes, Alan and I have known each other for almost five years - I believe it WILL be five years next month. We met at a country house hotel weekend, up there on Speyside, Scotland. However, we meet only about once a year, if that.

Alan's a good egg. Well, he has to be - he's another Scottish Country Dancer!!!

Well, there you go. Do you realise Alan lives very close to me. About 25miles - if that. And even closer to where I used to live. It's a small world.

I did try to spare Ham's blushes by not letting on that this immodest ( and certainly not well-off) lawyer knew him.

Ham, I hope to be in Bournemouth for a legal event in mid July - perhaps if you are around we could repeat our walk along Brighton sea-front !

I plan to go camping in Ballater ( 45 mikles SW of Aberdeen and close to Balmoral Castle) over Easter, so if there are members of this site who would like to go walking, please do let me know. There are some very nice and un-strenuous walks, particularly around Loch Muick.

And the fly-fishing is good, too.

That sounds good to me, Alan. Life is pretty full, however, so do let me know your dates ASAP.
