What colour to get? Advice please.
Hey Gents,
I would like your advice on something if you don't mind. I want to get myself another jacobite shirt (I already have a cream/off white one), but I just don't know what colour to get. I will be wearing my Grant kilt, as seen in the picture below. I know the convention is to match your shirt to your hose, the thing is I recently bought green hose that matches the green in my kilt bang-on that I would like to wear.
Now if I were to wear a green shirt that matched (and I'm thinking that finding a close enough match isn't about to happen) I'm thinking that'd be way too much green. So I was thinking I could try a black shirt (because it's neutral), or a dark or light blue shirt to match the dark and light blue stripes in my kilt.
I intend to wear it with regular brogue shoes and my belt and sporran are black leather.
Here's the picture showing my kilt:

So guys, what do ya think I should get?
Will

Go for the green. I have green hose and shirt that I wear with my Livingston kilt and it has plenty of green.

The black one will go with everything. I've been wanting one for a while but I don't ever wear my cream one. The green would have less options w/ other kilts. Why not get both if you like them? That's the problem with greens they don't always go together well. O'Neille

My advice: green would look good as it is not the dominant colour in the tartan, but is HAS to be a perfect match! If there is any doubt go for the black shirt.

It would look nice at Christmas though. Maybe with a card and some ribbon. O'Neille

That's exactly what I was thinking. That much green not matching; it would totally clash, a la my first attempt buying green hose. I didn't have my kilt on or with me when I bought them. When I got home I tried the kilt on with them and to my dismay the greens didn't work. Now I know better and was able to find hose that do match.
So I'll check out what the local Scottish Shoppe has on hand and if I they have a green one that matches "perfectly" I'll get that. If not, I'll get a black one.
Thanks guys,
Will

That's exactly what I was going to say, but Hamish beat me to it.

The Clan Grant Society of the US had clan t-shirts made in green and it looked good with the ancient Grant, but not so with the modern, which is why I didn't get one.

I enjoyed seeing the pic of your kilt. I was VERY close to buying a Grant kilt for my wedding before settling on my the one I got. The Clan Grant society in the US claims my family as a sept, but the Grants in the UK say no. After much research, I found nothing to substantiate the claim, so I went in another direction.
Red's not my favorite color, anyway.
