What is a Kilt?

Threads around here for the past year or so have been quite sad. Many are telling and not many people are communicating or enjoying the kilt. It seems that we have a major divide in what a kilt is how it is to be worn and who is to wear it.

My views:
(1) a kilt is a garment that was popularized by Scotland and England. After being spread throughout the world by pipe bands Many people in other country's (North America) adopted the kilt for it's masculine looks and extreme comfort. It is a piece of clothing that I would like to see viewed as acceptable for anyone to wear.
(2) I wear the kilt traditionally casual. I think many of the modern kilts loose the masculine sophistication that a tartan kilt holds. It looks sloppy and unattractive. I look at the kilt as more than just jeans. With jeans a tshirt will do. But with a kilt you just dont look right if your not spruced up a bit.
(3) I feel a kilt can be worn by anyone. The days of it being worn by Scots in Scotland are long past. When I go to the UK I don't get upset if I see a Brit, Scot or whatever wearing cowboy gear. It's foolish to think that kilts are reserved for anyone. To think that anyone but a Scotsman in Scotland can wear one is prejudice and even racist.

So what does the rabble think?

This member of the Rabble thinks that there are already several threads going debating all these points, as well as several which have gone around in the past. I also think that a few of us like to argue, but most of us like to put on our kilts and enjoy wearing them. I want to be in the latter camp.

That said, I do feel Cowher's pain here. As a not-remotely-Scottish chap who simply loves the kilt (and the pipes, a good single malt, and haggis) there seems to be a very negative vibe here of late. THAT said, we have well and truly discussed it to death. Onward and upward, as a wise child (who didn't fit in anywhere either) once said.

I don't recall anyone saying who can or cannot wear a kilt. I recall someone questioning the motivations of a non-Scot to wear a kilt. That person has no issue with anyone wearing a kilt.
