A gent with a lot of disposable income?

OK, all kidding aside - take a look at this site - it should give you a pretty good idea of what to expect/look for.

Buy a copy of Barb Tewksbury's book

    "The Art of Kiltmaking"

    Available through Barb at http://www.celticdragonpress.com/

It will take you through every aspect of what makes a quality Kilt. Good photos and great explanations of what to look for.

A tag that says Custom Made by Barb Tewksbury helps.

But, an appropriately made waist and taper as far as construction. And the beauty's in the details, so no visible stitching and quality straps and buckles.

This is a good read for new kilt buyers. written by one of our own members, who is also an official of the Scottish Tartans Authority

Education, training, experience, and credentials = perfect pleatwork.

A kiltmaker who puts their own name on the kilt they sew.

There are many. Check the photo galleries for examples of their work. Search this board for reviews by typing in names of kiltmakers you discover.

I like Kathy Lare www.kathyskilts.com in Albuquerque, NM. Pics of her work in my gallery.

My preference doesn't diminish the work of any other kiltmaker.

Your final choice will probably be a quality kiltmaker geographically close to you so you can be measured up by the kilt maker. Its worth the trip.

Just as in everything else, typically, "You get what you paid for."

RESEARCH is not a costly investment. It is a more valuable tool than some unsolicited advisors. It does save misspent labors and saves many hearts from the mistaken belief that if it costs more then the quality is higher.
