What Price Glory Kilts????

I'm hoping for some input from the rabble on What Price Glory kilts. I noticed their Black Watch and it's very enticing. I do know they're made in Pakistan, so I wonder if anyone has purchased one, and what your feelings are about its quality, and fit? Thanks!

I have on in the Gordon tartan. The material is very thick and heavy and extremely durable. However, I found it to me unforgiving to somebody who may have a larger back end (like me), but once I removed the lower strap on the right side, if fit very well. I highly recommend it, especially for winter.

I have the Cameron , It ran big, straps where already cracked, i am about to replace them. Fabric is thick and it may sound like i am complaining, but i do love the kilt. I would buy it again if i needed to

I got a MacKenzie several years ago and truly enjoy it during the cool to really cold weather. It is way too heavy at temps above 60F. It is a heavy kilt (a tad over 5lbs) that I call "The Beast". It does run big though as I normally get OTR kilts in a 46 but this one is 44X23 and does very good for me when I tuck in a fleece. Get one... They are worth it.

I don't know if you have your heart set on a WPG repro, but bugpiper on Ebay has Black Watch kilts in a variety of sizes at the moment, starting at GBP150.00.
Just search under Scottish Militaria on the UK Ebay. Why get a copy when you can have the real thing. Just a thought

Or even check out my thread which has info on a new army surplus blackwatch kilt. It won't be the same weight but as Downunder said why pay for a copy when you can buy the real thing. I think his kilts are £110 pounds plus postage.

My advice check out all options before making the plunge.

Thanks for all the input. Now I'm really confused, especially on size, since two of you stated that they run large.

I contacted Jerry about my size, which is normally a 36", and thought I might go with the 34". He said to go the with the 36". Big decision, now!

I'll check the other options, too.

Jerry told me the same thing.
i wear a 36 kilt. and when i ordered the 34 he said" you plan on going on a crash diet" Turns out I was right. I am even contemplating moving the buckles on inch back ward to allow for the new straps i just got from Artificer.

The What Price Glory kilts are fantastic if you want a really thick, heavy kilt - a real MONSTER with 30 plus cast iron pleats! I have a Gordon and the waist fit is spot on. The only thing that lets it down a little is the waist straps which are not very supple. I liked it so much I ordered a MacKenzie Seaforth. This was slightly better quality. The waist straps were much better and the fabric was better, it was smoother (but still as heavy). The real WOW factor was the expertly made military box pleats. The only problem was that it was way too large for me (and with my size that's saying something!) My waist size fluctuates between 46 inches and 48 inches and I bought a 46inch. I tried the next size down (44inch) but this was still too big and after this I gave up, although if I could guarantee the right size I would snap one up. I would estimate that a size 42inch may be O.K. but knowing my luck that would come through at the right size and would be too small. The one thought I did have was lying in a bath of water to see if it would shrink but I figured was that a bit too drastic! I can't fault the owner Gerry as he replaced the kilts without a quibble. I'm hoping to visit California in the near future and when I do I'll visit WPG and try the kilts on to get the right fit. As far as getting an ex army kilt a guy my size has no chance as they are all small waists, so the repros are our only hope .

I can't vouch for his kilts but I have bought many things from Jerry Lee over the last 20 some years. He is a stand-up with great stuff. If his kilts are anything like his other repro stuff I would would not hesitate. I would, however call or email for sizing, it seems.
