What to wear?

We in the coks rabble want to have a sudo Burns affair and I was wondering if a Argyll Jacket and Vest would be fine? or do I need a pc and vest? This is not going to be a real formal event but want to look good. Thanks for the thoughts.

Thanks everyone, I think shirt and tie( not black) will be the order of the day.

Some Burns affairs are quit formal at ballrooms in hotels and baquet halls. Others are small affairs at someone's home. The host can establish the dress by simply stating "Black Tie" or even "semi-formal" on the announcements. Left to their own decision, you will get a little bit of everything. If this is the case, wear what you have and feel most comfortable in.

I was planning on wearing my Argyle jacket and vest, along with shirt and tie...not black tie. Something to dress up the outfit for the occasion...Since we would go to a pub or bar, I think black tie would be overkill myself.

The Argyll and waistcoat are 100% "spot on the money" for the night. Wear it and enjoy the evening.

If you want to dress up an Argyll and vet, add a black bow tie. Looks a little more formal.

I'm wearing my argyle vest w/o a vest (don't have one). But I'm not going to the 'fancy' event at St. Andrew's Society, just a local pub - I'll probably be better dressed than the other kilties.

I'll be attending the Ferintosh Burns Supper again this year and will be in black Argyll jacket and waistcoat. Some will be more formal but its what I have so I'll be wearing it.

Alright, lets get technical! Is your argyll tweed or a black barathea, silver buttoned, one?If it is tweed then no bow tie and if its the silver buttoned job then its really too formal for the pub, for example. I really don't know why some people ignore, or feel uneasy about the tweed argyll and tie for informal evening wear. Better ,by far, the low profile approach than overdoing the formality of your attire for an occasion that does not warrant it.
