If you skirt the issue too often, you get kilt.

Welcome aboard! Kilt is what you get when you call it a skirt.

    It's a big issue

Kilt or skirt, skirt or kilt, it's a big issue with some. I can't figure out why?

If you were lucky enough to be wearing a kilt, you'd be "ahappylittleboy"

Seriously, its somewhat like the difference between a rectangle and a square. A square is a rectangle (four sided object with four 90 degree corners) but a rectangle isnt a square (four equal sides, with 90 degree corners).

A kilt is a type of skirt, (an unbifurcated garment that covers the body from the waist down), but a kilt is a more specific type, namely being pleated, and fastening by wrapping about the body, ending somewhere near the knees, as well as being designed mainly for men.

I suppose you could get yet more specific about what makes up a scottish kilt, but in honesty the garment has been pretty mutable for most of its history, with only these last 200 years or so really seeing a hardening of what makes it a 'traditional scottish kilt'.

To me, any pleated mens skirt is a kilt (be it a hand sewn tank, sportkilt, UK, Amerikilt, etc...). If it lacks pleats, is shorter or longer by more than a few inches from kneelength, or is designed with women in mind, then its a skirt only, not also a kilt.
.. the kilt had concealed a blaster strapped to one thigh and a knife to the other. He was aware of the present gentle customs against personal weapons, but he felt naked without them. Such customs were nonsense anyhow, foolishment from old women - there was no such thing as "dangerous weapons," only dangerous people.

It bothered me at first, but technically a kilt is a skirt. A man-skirt.

After a year or two, it got to where I didn't care at all what it's called. A girliefriend calls me 'Skirt' and some of her friends don't even know my real name.

I'm comfortable and free, that's all I care about.

    Dude,

Spend this week working on the difference between "there" and "they're". We'll tackle skirts and kilts next week!

Jeff, there's no way to top that one and people are certainly going to try, so -

    Thread locked.
