What's the story on the huge hairy sporrans
Perhaps I could find the answer (or multiple opinions) regarding this if I searched long enough but I'm curious about the reasoning and tradition of those really huge and hairy sporrans (horse hair).
When and why did some sporrans get so enormous?

Is that an Edsell tartan?
It's a military / pipeband thing.

The story is that hair sporrans go way back and seem to be making something of a comeback. Look on a Dewars (pronounced "Doo-ers) bottle, at many old photos, at any pipe band and you'll see hair sporrans.
I have one I haven't even worn yet, but Burns Supper is coming!  Search through the posts and you'll see lots of comments on hair sporrans and discussions of their various attributes.

To the OP question....well when there's something hanging low in that area and the word "horse" comes to mind...it's not always a bad thing....
For me, there is nothing in this world that holds the same fascinating appeal as watching the backside of well kilted man...
