Where Did All These Kilts Come From????

Some folks think I'm trying to catch Ham's kilt count. I'm not. I don't wanna.

But I am wondering where all these kilts came from.

So, I did a little review. The extent of this addiction is frightening.

I don't consider Ham a kilt addict. I consider him a kilt connoisseur.

When Ham joined this board 3/1/2004 he owned 32 kilts and had one on order. He now owns 63 kilts. That's about a kilt a month.

Me, I think I'm some kind of kilt junkie.

When I joined this board 10/4/2004 I owned four kilts and had eight on order. I now own 39 kilts and have eight on order. That's about two kilts a month.

How many times have I said, "That's it!" I have more than enough kilts. I don't need to order any more....only to see a kilt I like and have the funds to purchase it at the same time. Some sort of cosmic pull overcomes me and I order it.

I never owned 39 pairs of pants at one time!!

This new FREEDOM is addicting!

I'm sure there's a psychiatric diagnosis for this behavior. I just hope that when they take me away and lock me up for it that they'll let me take a few kilts to wear.

You new guys to kilting beware. Folks ain't joking when they talk about kilt addiction. Its real.....so is "kilt accessory compulsion."

Jeez...I never owned as many pairs of socks as I now own kilt hose. One wallet used to last for years and years....now I have a dozen assorted sporrans! And kilt pins...can't be poking holes in the kilts now...gotta have a kilt pin for every tartan kilt....at $20+ a pop that adds up.

Can I afford all this? Yes.

Am I having fun? You bettcha!

Do I really need psychiatric help for this addiction/compulsion? The jury is still out on that one...

Scary doesn't do it justice. I joined 8/28/05 with 1 kilt. I now have 45. Ron, I think we need more kilts.

And no, I'm not trying to catch Hamish. Most of mine came from E-Bay and estate sales, I found some bargains and the rest is history. I've also made 6 myself.

I needed that. Just knowing someone has kilt addiction/compulsion WORSE than I do is a great comfort...

Now I can relax and order another kilt...

I know we tend to joke a bit about "kilt-addiction"... but I think it can be just as real as an addiction to gambling, shopping, video-games, shoes, or any other non-chemical fixation.

To us, kilt-addiction may not be a bad thing... but I believe it to be a very real thing.

Anything can be addicting if you let it take over.
I simply ran up a large number quickly because I found used kilts in my size. Of the ones I have only around 6 were purchased new. The rest were used and cost less than $100 each.

enablers? nah...we are just people who like fine clothing that fits well and looks good.

That makes me glad my luck is the way it is. When I find a kilt in a tartan I like, it won't fit me; and if it will fit me, it's in a tartan I don't like or have a connection to. My purchases have been kept in check.

Oh - BUYING them - you aren't mainlining yet - MAKING them yourself.

Just when you think you have a good number to choose from the diet shrinks your waist a couple of inches and you start taking them apart and making them smaller, and then you think - the season has changed I'll need some (insert colour or weight of fancy here) ones, so the material has to be found and then the kilts made, and then you need to have different clothes to go with them make some, buy some - and then perhaps the new combination looks better with a darker or lighter belt, or entirely different colour belt and then there's need of new shoes, and maybe a different hat would look better - and the back pack is entirely wrong now....
