Why are you wearing a kilt tonight?

Last Friday night at my usual hostelry, the 3 Judges in Partick, Glasgow, I wore my Douglas tartan kilt for no other reason than wanting to wear it.
Frequently through out the evening I was asked why I was wearing a kilt, my reply was the same I just wanted to wear it.
So even in Glasgow, Scotland, it seems that wearing a kilt at the pub is a source of enquiry from fellow patrons and bar tenders.

I suppose when the day comes no one mentions that you are kilted then we all will be disappointed, vain or what?

Nobody ever asks me why I am wearing a kilt. If I don't wear it people often ask where's the kilt.

I don't even get asked about it very often and I know I'm the only guy in town that wears a kilt. It's a very small town.

I know that not every man in Scotland wears a kilt, but I figured that you would just be considered a man who decided to wear his kilt and that's that.

    Very enlightening.

I frequently just reply "Common Sense" and let them mull that over.

It's good you choose to wear the kilt, for no particular reason. Your example might find others wishing to wear their kilt, for no particular reason. We see that in Scotland, wearing the kilt is usually held for special occassions, and with those of you who are stepping out of the box, are probably encouraging others to do the same. I tip my hat to you, and encourage you to keep on kilting!...LOL

Perhaps it is a good thing then that a newbie kilter like me is always debating if "today is a kilt day". Unfortunately, though...wearing a kilt to work is a no-go...even if I get the camo-pattern...pretty sure the ol' USAF won't be kind about it.

I have worn a kilt every day for the past 7 months. No one questions it or asks why. On three occasions when I felt a kilt was not proper and I wore pants I was asked "why arn't you wearing a kilt?"

As I contemplate the purchase of my first kilt I have considered what I might do in a similar situation. Here are two possible responses for your consideration.

Because my wife won't let me go out in public neked.

    or

Because my breechclout is at the dry cleaners.
