| | | Wife jealous of the Kilt
I wear kilts almost everyday, including to work (very lucky to work for a company that values diversity). I get mostly compliments from both men and women when out and about in a kilt, but the compliments or general discussion brought about by the kilt bug my wife. She has been deep in conversation with a doctor and I walked in and he stopped the medical talk and told me about being in Edinburgh and attending the tattoo. Another time while standing in line a woman told me that I looked really nice.
The compliments from others seem to bother my wife from time to time. She seems to be a bit jealous of the "attention" I get when wearing kilts, although I extend an offer for her to buy "fancy" (the word she most often uses to describe my kilt outfits) clothes, although she always passes on the opportunity. I would have thought that wearing kilts almost everyday to work, picking the kids up from school and daycare, shopping, and everything else one does daily would have muted her reaction, but she still has issues from time to time.
Wondering if other kilt wearers have experienced a similar reaction from their significant others and how you handled it? I will continue to wear kilts and am curious if someone has successfully "turned" someone to the good side !

Human females are accustomed to being the ones with the fine plumage - that may be part of the problem. The attention you get from other women may worry her a bit.

Jewelery, jewelery, jewelery...women love jewelery, and flowers, and well you get the point

I must be one of the lucky ones then. At a time in the past my wife said I needed a new suit and I said that I wanted a kilt with argyle jacket instead.
She immediately agreed and came with me to all my fittings and selection of accessories. She loves me to wear one of my kilts on any occasion and has never shown any signs of being envious. She readily tells her girlfriends that I am a kilt wearer is always encouraging me to wear the kilt more. Unfortunately I cannot wear a kilt to work as being a sparky, it's a oh&s issue.
So there is no complaint about my wonderful women, she is very encouraging

Why does everyone assume that she's jealous?
Just imagine, she's deep in conversation with a doctor having a serious conversation and in walks her husband and the doctor immediately ceases conversing with her just to comment on the fact that he was at some tattoo a world away. How rude! Geez, you're only wearing a kilt for heaven's sake, not running around nekkid so, what's the big deal, she's probably saying to herself. So, she's a little annoyed, not the same as jealous. And when you say that she's just jealous, you're belittling the issue and not respecting her, especially when someone suggests just throwing jewelry at the issue or buying fancy clothing. It's a futile gesture, like patting her on the head and saying 'there, there'.
I'm not married to her, but this would be my take on it.

I think this most certainly is "dealing with the power of the kilt". Now that you have "the power" use it wisely.

My wife gets annoyed if I don't wear my kilt sometimes!

it may have nothing to do with whether or not she likes you kilted, if your kilt takes center stage all of the time it could really be bothersome, and not have anything to do with jealousy.
Now, you guys know I loooove kilts, and I loooove all of you in your kilts, but I have to sympathize with the OP's wife here.
Maybe all she wants is for you to acknowledge this and to talk to her about it... (and wear pants when she goes to the doc! )
Anyway, just my humble 2 cents.

Sounds like you're guessing at what she's thinking. Have you sat down and talked openly about it?
