Women in Kilts?
A female friend of mine wants to wear a gent's kilt. She knows there are kilted skirts for women, she just wants to wear a gent's. She is of Scottish descent (Gordon) and Irish (Bailey) and can trace her lineage back to Robert The Bruce, so it's not that she's worried about that (not that it would really make a difference). she just worries she'll offend tradition. I've told her it probably wouldn't be an issue, but I'm pretty new at this whole kilt thing.

I'm not a fan of women in men's kilts. But then, who the F. am I?

I've seen several women wearing kilts as part of their pipe band uniforms...nothing wrong with that...in point of fact a couple of them looked quite hot...

Like another said, except for pipers I think it not proper, but to quote Tattoobradley

I'm not a big fan of it but don't see any problems, if she wants one so be it.

If she was really concerned about tradition she would wear a kilted skirt or anything but a uniquely male garment.
It seems pointless to go out of your way to wear a male garment when there are plenty of female options.
Pipe bands are a completely different issue, so just because women can be in a pipe band is not a valid reason for women wearing a male structured kilt.
If a women wants to wear a man's kilt, so be it. Hopefully she will be forthcoming when people comment about it that she is wearing mens clothes.
but, as Bradley put it so well, who am I!

As the first female posting on this, I'm going to add my 2cents.
A kilt is, first and foremost, a man's garment. It is cut for the male hips, which are slim and narrow compaired to a woman's, which must be rounded and wide. A kilt doesn't fit a women's hips well, hence it doesn't lay right. Women have the option in the kilted skirt, which is made for our hips, why wear a man's kilt? Now, if she want's a kilt, no one would stop her. If I would see her, I'd just go my merry way wondering why she was wearing a man's garment.
But, it's a free country, wear what you want.

So basically the general consensus is "No one will really get too upset... but why?"
Pretty much what I was expecting. Thanks guys.
