Women's SportKilts

Hey Yall,

I'm thinking about getting my girlfriend a sportkilt for her High School graduation gift and to celebrate our 2 1/2 year anniversary. Can anyone tell me how good they are? And are the mini-kilts too short? She's about 5'9 with pretty long legs, so I don't know which to get her.

I have very little direct experience with these, but I've heard a fair ammount of positive feedback about the women's skirt options from Sportkilts.

Judging from the pictures, if your lady is 5'9, you might want to think of something other than the miniskirt. That's just my personal view on the topic, though.

Well, my wife is happy with hers. She is 5' 4", and you can see the length here.

Because of the velcro, she can wear it higher or lower depending. In the picture, she's wearing it more on her hips. As far as to whether it would be too short on your GF, it all depends on what she's confortable with. What is too short for some is far too long for others, and it doesn't always depend on height or leg length, but personal comfort levels.
As far as quality, the skirt is a cotton blend (I think) and it can be washed and dried. The only option we got was the sewn-down pleats. It's not fair to compare it to a wool mini-kilt because the price is so much lower. All I can say is that she (and I!) are happy with it; it's a very comfortable and versatile garment that's easy to wear and wash.

Yeah, good call Mac. And isn't that the Hawaiian tartan? B/c that looks really good. I might have to pick up one of those for myself.

Yes, it's the Hawaiian. When we were looking at which tartan to order for her, the Hawaiian wasn't even available. When I saw it, I had to have one too (we honeymooned there).
Maybe you can be sneaky and measure the length of some of the other skirts that she has and likes, and then compare to the SK length and decide whether it's worth the risk.

I bought the California Tartan for my girlfriend and I and she loves it. Sportkilt's colors on their kilts really jump out and look nice. I suggest getting the leather straps added to it, it helps make it look more like a kilt skirt rather than just a regular skirt. We got the sewn down pleats, buckles/straps, and the fringe, and it looks great on her. It doesn't cost that much to add the extra's on. I wouldn't bother with the belt loops though, not for a girl's skirt.

Man I really like the California tartan, pretty hot. And yeah, I'm most deff gonna get the sewn down pleats for her kilt.

I'm 5' 8" and I have a mini from Sport Kilt. I've been told it's not too short. Considering your girlfriend's age, I think a mini is probably just right for her. I'll try to dig up a picture of me in my "Loud" Macleod mini for you.

Some easy basics. What your GF likes to wear. If she likes her skirts/dresses to mid thigh, that is what you want to get her. If it is at the knee, than that is the measure to go for. Also, if you do not know her size yet, it might be handy to check out one of her favourite skirts for size info. Also if she has colour preferences, that should be taken into consideration for her kilt. You really want this gift to be about her. If you can, you want this kilt to be her new favourite. Its colours should go with what she wears for blouses, hose, and accessories. If she is a purple loving lass, than purple should be the main colour in the tartan. Etc. Than it would be good to have a kilt for youself in the same tartan a few days later.
