Just got this email back from ScotlandShop after asking if they would do silk kilts since they already do silk tartan skirts.
"Hi Ron
Thank you for your email. We could make a kilt from silk but as silk is such a lightweight fabric the pleats would not hang very well and would have to be continually ironed back in. We don’t think it would look very good which is why we don’t make them! If you are desperate for one we can quote for one if you like?"
I'm guessing they mean the tartan silk they stock is lightweight. So....hey...they didn't say no...

Not really! Depending on the thread weight, a silk kilt wouldn't look any different than a superfine wool or a wool blend. It would, however, look more "expensive" due to the obviously better finish than you get with most "ex-rental" kilts. That said, most lads don't pay any attention to what other blokes are wearing, other than the team logo on their shirt. And that might get one a ride home in a van with a blue light on it!
