| | | XKilt Vs. X Marks Tartan Kilt
I am posting this here (general kilts), as it is a section used and read by all.
There seems to be some cross terminology used for 2 types of kilts.
One is the XKilt/X Kilt designed and freely distributed instructions by out own Alan H.
The other is a kilt made in X Marks the Scot tartan, usually traditional (whether knife or box pleated), but not universally.
My understanding (and what I expect when I open a thread marked X Kilt is one made to Alan's instructions. When I open one titled X Marks Kilt, I am expecting one made using the X Marks tartan worsted wool.
I've seen the terms used interchangably, so am I off or do others expect such a distinction.
I am not directing this toward any particular thread or poster, so no offense is intended. I am just seeking a point of clarification on the forum terminology.
Any help?

Spot on!
And, personally, I wouldn't make an X-Kilt out of X-Marks tartan, though you
*COULD*
do that.
However, I would *certainly * make a full-width apron box pleat kilt out of X-marks tartan!

MacWage,
I would think the distinction should be between an "X Kilt" as one designed by Alan H. and an "X Marks Tartan Kilt"*. An X Marks Kilt could be any number of things, I mentally think of my Matt Newsome knife pleat kilt as my "X Marks Kilt" because it was made by an X Marker (M.A.C. Newsome) and has my X Marks the Scot kilt pin (courtsey of the KiltedCodeWarrior).
Cheers
Jamie *Then again, I'm fussy

I have to agree with MacWage (and also Turpin!), and XKilt is a box pleaed kilt made while following Alan H's instructions, or at least having the mind! I suppose an XMarks kilt could refer to either any kilt worn or made by an XMarker, or a kilt made from the XMarks tartan. I tend to think the former, but can understand the latter after I open the thread.
