Yippy Yahoo I got me a new kilt today!

I received my new "Mercy" solid black kilt from Kate's Clothing today. It is sold as Goth and/or Punk wear but the price of 24.99 UKP was too good to pass up. I am supprised at the quality, Goth wear is usually pretty poor, this isn't. Except for the mid-weight polyester cloth it is identical to my more expensive kilts.

Because I want to use this as a knock-around kilt, the polyester actually is better than wool.

Don't I have a nice tartan kilt to wear instead? Yes I do but they are in Louisiana and I am in Germany.

Congrats on the new purchase. I don't suppose you have a link to the makers website handy?
    Cheers!

Yippy, Yahoo, got me a new kilt

I see these kilts by Mercy advertised on e-bay and they are very cheap, starting at £19.99 bid or at £24.99 on buy it now. They look like a reasonable representation of the traditional Scottish kilt, but made in cotton and polyester and available only in all black, black with pinstripe, black watch, or "tartan". As said earlier in this thread they are aimed at the punk/goth market rather than serious kilt wearers. However all three of my kilts are expensive high quality garments; too good really for everyday wear, much as I might like to wear a kilt more often. Many people have complemented me on my all black heavyweight, and I'm thinking one of these budget kilts in black might be OK for casual wear in milder weather. The low price suggests poor quality and poor presentation but they look quite good in the photos. They seem to come in standard sizes; I would need a 40 inch waist which would mean a 24 inch length which would be about right for a traditional kilt worn high at the waist but might be a bit too long for a fashion kilt hung from trouser belt height. I would be interested to hear the views of other forumites who may have had first hand experience of wearing these.

    Congrats!

I also "need" a cheap kilt to wear at work (I'm a cook) or other messy events...like pub nights 8-)

Sounds like a good buy Robert. And for the price, even if it wears out in a year, it was still cheaper, and a better purchase, than a pair of pants!
