Happy New Year to one and all!

Here I am in my plain black kilt at a local pub on new year's eve. It was my first time in a kilt at the pub. I surprised a good many people I can tell you!
Standing next to me is my good friend Pablo.


Pablo is an actor and has appeared on TV many times, but this year he even appeared on a British Christmas stamp!

Everybody in the UK will no doubt have received a Christmas card this year with his face on the envelope. He's the one on the right.
Quite something to have your face on a British stamp, don't you think?
Oh and by the way, no, that's not me on the left!

Though I have to admit that I have made an appearance as one of the (very) ugly sisters in a pantomime some years ago. The evidence can be found here if you have the stomach to look!

As for Jock Tamson, here is what I could find out about him, though I was aware that the saying meant that we as a race are all brothers and sisters. Something that is too often forgotten I'm afraid.

'We're all Jock Tamson's bairns' is a popular saying in Scotland and indeed is known in other parts of the world. The Reverend John Thomson {Jock Tamson} was a much-loved minister of Duddingston Kirk, Edinburgh from 1805 to 1840. He called the members of his congregation 'ma bairns' {my children}and this resulted in folk saying 'we're all Jock Tamson's bairns' which gave a sense of belonging to a small but special group. Nowadays, the phrase is often used to indicate we're all the same under the skin.'

That is fascinating. I have never heard of him or the expression before! Well, one is never too old to learn something new.....
