    County Donegal tartan from Clan.com
    Hello -
I'm very interested in getting some HoE County Donegal tartan. Clan.com seems to be carrying it (and based on Barb's "code" that she's posted elsewhere for determining from the description which mill fabric comes from, it seems to be HoE), but the image of the tartan on clan.com:

seems much darker than the the image on HoE's website:

Does anyone happen to know if one of these more accurately resembles the tartan colorway? It says "ancient colours" on clan.com, but there's nothing mentioning "ancient" on HoE's site. Some of the pictures of other irish tartans on clan.com seem to be closer to what's depicted on HoE's website. I'm wondering if it's just not a great picture of the tartan, or if it's really a different colorway.

I'll just order a swatch if I have to, but was hoping to save the return trip if anyone had any insight.

    Thanks!

The mill that weaves that Tartan is called House of Edgar. Or HoE for short.

I would suggest that you use the design on their website as the "official" guide of what their fabric will look like.

And if I wanted to buy fabric I would contact the weaving mill first. Some mills sell fabric direct. Fabric purchased through a re-seller will usually cost more, as you are paying, not only what the re-seller paid, but the re-sellers retail mark-up for them to stay in business.

Individual photos can vary all over the place both in lightness/darkness and in colour (warm/cool).

And computer-generated images are usually the worst at giving a false idea of the appearance of the actual cloth.

I always try to find a photo of the tartan made up into a kilt. This nearly always gives a more accurate idea.

I found this quickly by Googling, it's a kilt by Braw Kilts being made from HOE's County Donegal
