    Hello Iowa!
I know there is Kilted Iowans! I am, and I know Des Moines has pipers and drummers! Get on, get active and let us build a Celtic community in the great state of Iowa......

    Kilt Night!
I would love to have a kilt night in Iowa, just to meet my kilted community members. Food, music and fun would be great too, but you have to start somewhere. I am just off the Nebraska border (West Coast of Iowa) and to get the NE people to wear kilts, would probably take a NE Cornhuskers kilt! I know they have everything else from TP to Golf clubs in Husker Red and White!

You ask the land I love the best...
"IOWA, 'tis Iowa...the fairest state in all the west, etc."

Don't forget that there are three Scottish societies in Iowa:

I'm not aware of any organizations on the west side of the state, but a simple google search might turn up something.

I'm not in Iowa (more's the pity!), but in "Misery" -- but my family's roots in Iowa go back to the 1840s. As I mentioned in another post, my grandmother was born in the "shadow" of the state capitol in East Village, and my mom hails from North Central Iowa, just south of Mason City/Clear Lake.

You also might enjoy the article I wrote on Iowa's Scottish heritage:

There is a picture of yours truly in my Iowa tartan kilt at the bottom.

    Regards,

    Todd

Black & Gold are much better colors...although my cousins in Cedar Falls prefer "panther purple".

Ha! Alas and Alack! I am not currently in Iowa myself! I look forward to coming home for R&R soon. I am currently stationed in Iraq again! I am looking forward to Iowa green soon! Also the freedom to wear my kilt when I wish! Where was your Iowa kilt crafted? Thanks for the post!

The tartan was a special weave from D.C. Dalgleish in Scotland; the kilt was made by Tartan scholar and master kilt-maker Matt Newsome:
