    Gordon Highlanders sealskin sporran?
Here's a curious and to me inexplicable thing

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/Millitary-1...temCondition=4

I would have taken it for an ordinary leather & seal civilian Day Dress sporran, on which some Gordons veteran had stuck a Gordon Highlanders sporran badge. I've seen loads of civilian sporrans with military badges attached aftermarket.

But no! It has the Broad Arrow stamp!

So now my best guess would be that the seal front was added later, when the veteran continued to use the sporran in his civilian attire. I'll stick with that until somebody shows me a photo of Gordon Highlanders wearing sealskin-front sporrans.

I agree. You can see where the sealskin was cut away to retain use of the snap.

Richard I think you are correct, it looks like it was stitched on top of the original sporran front. If you look closely at some of the pictures you can see the edge of the sealskin and stitching, had the front been original the edge wouldn’t be visible.

I did it myself many years ago, put a fur front on a plain leather Day sporran.

I just glued it on! The edges were sort of tucked under the welt and it looked good enough.
