sporran cantles source
The question has come up a number of times from DIY people, where can I buy cantles?
Just now several came up on Ebay.
This style, being sold in both polished and antique versions, looks like a quality cantle

But a warning, several of the other cantles from this seller look to be poor-quality recasts, almost surely made in Pakistan.
(It may seem counterintuitive, but often you can buy a dodgy Pakistani sporran for $20 or $30 that has a quite nice cantle, bin the sporran and have a nice cantle to use for your project.)
A second thing I noticed, whether or not it concerns you, is that who is obviously the same seller is using two different Ebay accounts.
In any case there at least appear to be two quality cantles to be had, though be sure to note the rather high shipping cost.

How about this one for an ebay laugh?

Sometimes I wonder if things like that are done on purpose or are mere typos.
There's a legitimate and well-known supplier of bagpipes and piping supplies in Scotland that always has a number of listings going on Ebay, and a few months ago a few of their items were listed at ten times the normal prices.
I assume it was only typos. However the Scottish firm allowed those auctions to go their whole time rather than quickly pulling them down.
There hasn't been a repeat of that, from them.

Here's something else DIYers often are looking for, the little nickel or chrome ball-things ("cones" even if round) that go on the tops of the tassels.
Here's a set of three, very inexpensive

You can also get "bells" from Margaret Morrison:

and bosses, bells, balls and cantle tops from Clan Art (they also sell cantles - which you have probably seen on many makes of sporran):

I’d recommend finding a skilled artisan to make exactly what you want. This cantle was made, bespoke for me, for less than the price of some diced hose.

Steve - you might have to spill the beans on your source

A lady called Sian Vaughan Jones from North Wales. You can find her on Facebook and see lots of examples of her work. She’s also modified an old MoD cantle for me and has recently completed a fully working cantle in nickel silver, from scratch, which is spectacular.
