Joe, you inspired me to do the same thing.

I made one out of a brown suede but found several things I did not like aobut the plans from the book. I also wasn't thrilled about the leather I used so I started over and used a black 3 to 4 oz leather. I also made some changes to the dimensions that are listed in the book. Another thing i did was to make patterns out a 5mil milar sheet so that another sporran could easly be made without all of the measuring. For the sporran shown, i had to make the gusset out of two pieces so I just sewed them together and put that seam in the middle of the bottom. I used my sife's sewing machine for this and sewing the gusset to the front and back body and it did just fine.

I made the body of the sporran 2 inches wider.
All of the parts. The long strip is the gusset, which I made 3 inches wide instead of the 2-1/2 inches the book calls for. The flap/cover I made much differently than the book call for as you can see in the photo. To reinforce this flap I cemented a heavier weight leather to the inside and then sewed a trim piece on to cover the edge.

The body of the Sporran.

This is the reenforcement for the front and the back. I used contact cement to glue them in. You can certainly stich them in if you choose.

And the finished product. I made the cords by braiding 2 mm lacing and then tying a crown knot. I only put eyelets on the fron because the cord moved easier through the bare leather.

The 2 inches in additional width really made a difference in how much room there is.

This is what I did for the belt loop. for the next one I make I will make this at least another inch wider.

Beautiful work! I like the way you kept the proportions whislt increasing the size. Oftimes that is done very clumsily, but you carried it off to perfection!
