Wonderful Burn's night in Bradford, UK, with Joehana my wife and around 150 other guests. It was a fantastic atmosphere, with good haggis, song and a full programme of Scottish dancing. The venue was...

I visit York quite a bit, I think I'll wear my kilt next time I'm there. It might act like a magnet.
-
Lol... oh I don't now so much, I quite like the vision of the Yorkshire clan called Ecky Thump with Bill Oddie as our chieftain ;-)
What a visual image - lol
-
Surely I can't be the only kilt wearing yorkshire man?

Thanks, I thought it didn't look, right

So how can farquharson be a sept of macfarlane? Unless the website is wrong because I thought Farquharson was a clan in its own right?
-
On the Macfarlane society site macfarquhar is listed as a sept. If mac="son of" then is that the same as clan Farquhar(son)?

I am, thanks... although as I said I wasn't happy with the apron. I tried pressing it again and it made matters worse... here's what it looks like now (much worse) but the exaggeration shows where my...

well Steve & Barbara... I finally finished my first kilt. The outer apron is not quite right but I think I know where I went wrong - I panicked when I was making it and didn't think the apron would...

Lol... I suppose you would know...

I certainly will do when I finish it off early next week.... there are faults in it but I'm really pleased for my first attempt.

I've made my first kilt (with all but the lining to do), and once again I'd like to thank both you and Barbara as well as the input from the Rabble in answering all of the questions one inevitably...

That makes sense Barbara but thank you for the kind offer of Skype... you and Steve have been helpful beyond measure. Thank you

Steve, can I quickly ask... if I do not remove the three leather straps Anchored to the tartan only and not through tartan and inerfacing material across the two aprons will the material distort with...
-
Thanks for the coprehensive reply... as ever very insightfull. I get what you say and agree although I maybe didn't explain myself very well on the last post. Yes, the tabs that hold the buckle are...

Thank you guys and as always especially Steve.
I measured along the selvedge and it's 7 yards 2 inch. When pulled at the buckles as per Steve earlier post, the pleats give almost a full inch and...

I recently came across a post by Tobus which raised the same question about my own kilt I purchased from a supplier in Scotland.

I went for the chest canvas posted earlier, not the Hymo type material. It was delivered today. It's quite stiff in one direction, folds easily in the other but as I have no proverbial yardstick to...

Thanks for the quick reply, I think I'll order a meter of each and see which is the stiffest.

I had the same dilemma and in the end went for the sept not clan tartan. Some may disagree but I have no problem wearing my clan badge on my family tartan. for me they go hand in hand showing...
