I have two of the propane Coleman stove…one "old" one and a copy of the stylish "new" one….what can I say….I run into these end-of-the-season close out sales and who can pass up a stove for $17? Of...

I guessing that we can write this off to either pure ignorance or some "enterprising" individual trying to hype the goods hoping for a bigger cash out on ebay.
Face it, your average schmoe just...

McFarkus and I had the pleasure of Jordan's company for lunch and some pub time here in Chicago proper yesterday. In spite of the city being clogged up by the NFL Draft festivities, we managed to...

Here's to you and all the Xmarks Old Timers…they are the backbone of the forum.

Basic tartan kilt, a black t-shirt and hiking boots….kilt hose sometimes scroonched, sometimes worn regular. Sweater if it's cold, leather jacket if it's possible.
I'm going to a Crawdad Boil...

None that I know of. Used to have the St. Andrew's Society do a program at the Daley Center downtown….not sure if that's still going on.
Looks like a blank:...

Thankfully, they brought the U505 inside…it may have been able to survive in the North Sea but Chicago winters are, apparently, a whole other animal. The exhibit is really nice and provides a lot...

….and I'd offer to take any of you guys from the UK to a baseball game but my experience with having done that is that your average UK person could care less about baseball and I've heard quite a bit...

Guess I'm the Chamber of Commerce this week…so…
The ride in from O'Hare to Downtown is on the CTA Blue Line…like a lot of cities, we've gone over to the transit card system where you pick up a...

Okay….the crime thing…depends on where in the city you are…much like any city anywhere. Odds are slim to none that you'll have any trouble at O'Hare…slim to none that you'll actually have any trouble...

Maybe the ticket is to restrict this kind of thing to a nice dog vest of tartan rather than a doggie Glengarry and Argyll jacket…sometimes too much is too much…

Just looked at it again and the Stewart Grey from Fraser and Kirkbright seems to have a bit more life to it than the examples above….it's in their 12 ounce tartan, though…mixed opinions about how...

Green stuff? All we can see her is white….and a lot of dirty grey. Derek, you ought to be getting a kickback from Welsh Tourism for making it look so good.

I'm lucky enough to live a block away from the Rock Island station at 103rd Street (hell…that was a big selling point when we bought the house!) so I hop The Rock and get off at LaSalle and Van...

The Downtown Chicago St. Patrick's Day Parade is on Saturday, March 14, 2015. Anybody planning to be downtown and looking for an Xmarks meet up?

We've been quietly trying to convert the great unwashed masses hereabouts from Jamesons to Bush for a while. It's pretty much a given that Bush is the better whisky but there are some "political"...

Maybe you should extend invitations to us folks from the Upper Midwest and we can act as the designated drivers if you get snow again this year….

Still interested in anybody's perspective on them, though.

A good observation about how historical re-enactors tend to err on the side of the grand rather than the humble.
Interesting because i once heard the author of that book "Confederates In The...

I have to agree…it just don't look right somehow. I'd expect that even some sort of thin (in the depth dimension) sporran, even if it was done in the same fabric as the kilt suit, would look better....

All right, I'll bite.
I was in on the "kilt backwards" thread. If I recall correctly without going back and looking at it, my comments were more of the, "gee, you'd think the guy would know better...
