Thanks, Richard, that's the one. The only thing I could come up with is proclamation day, but I knew that wasn't quite right. I find as I age, and its odd, is that I often can remember the first...

There is a loud tartan in yellow, red, blue and white in commemoration of some important day in Scottish history. I can't remember its name. Can you tell me what it is?
As I age I find it often...

You might save money going with Marton Mills. See the sticky at the top of this sub forum.
I don't have a problem using an Enlish weaver over a Scottish weaver unless you just want to spend more....

Afghanistan Memorial tartan is nearly sheriff brown. J Higgins shows it as a tartan they could make a kilt from. I. really like the tartan and may someday have a kilt made of it myself.

I havent absorbed the whole thread as I've only just skimmed it, so maybe i'm just being stupid, but might the pipers being uniformed in dark green have a little something to with The Rifles uniform...

Ues, coarse kilt is what i meant. The tartan is lighter blue and green, more of a sky blue and mossey green, and the black stripes are very easy to discern. It is just the opposite of the almost...

Doesn't the tartan of the 42nd rough kilt answer the question. Im not sure all i know is as i read the thread that tartan comes to mind, thanks to youn Figheadair. I still haven't had a kilt made of...

It's been pointed out to me tha I wrongly wrote Hollywood above rather than Holyrood. It was due to the darned auto completion thing doing the writing for me. Correctly, Holyrood Golden Jubilee is...

Someone, who shall not be named, designed tartans based on colors in the state seals. The Kansas version is butt ugly. It seems none of the bright colors in the Kansas State Seal are actually...

Hollywood Golden Jubilee may be the most beautiful tartan woven in my opinion. None of the examples you can see online really do it justice. My kilt in the tartan is my favorite. I've put on enough...

Historical Caps is the foremost place to buy. Gloria is easy to work with. I have three bonnets by her. Delivery time was surprisingly short and quality flawless.

The tartan called US Army is clearly based on one man's service and is not representative of the Army broadly.
I've been slowly working toward a pattern that does represent all of the Big Green...

Good choice on the buttons. Chrome belongs on bumpers, not clothing
I'm a student of Steve Ashton, who advises for casual dress a shirt and hose in matching or close colors can be worn with kilts...

Everyone is overshooting the mark. The best shirts worn with a Sport Kilt are tee shirts from WalMart.
With a USA Kilts casual you can wear buttons -- or not. For me a belt is needed when wearing...

Most commonly when referring to wool the term in the grease means the lanolin hasn't been removed from the wool. Lanolin has more or less the same water proofing qualities in woven wool as it does...

Each bonnet above appear to have a band of solid color below the checking and then a darker narrow stripe. I assume the dark narrow band is the same color as the body of the bonnet, but the band of...

I see a parallel in the economics discussed here to the price (dare I mention it) of the Colt single action army revolver. In 1873 one could buy the revolver with a $20 gold piece. Today it takes...

I wonder if the Rob Roy might have been woven for millinia. As I recall one or more of the Tarim Basin mummies was dressed in a yellow and black check "tartan." Red and black could have been done as...

You made a wise choice getting a casual. As they are closed with Velcro I like to wear a wide kilt belt with mine. Depending on your size some of the Velcro might be exposed. That's a bit tacky in...

Hope you've departed Kansas. It's going to be very, very cold here for a few days. Beyond brass monkey cold, but well down to only a fool would wear a kilt cold. The wind is picking up now as we...

The Eternity tartan kilt I started at Kilt Kamp 2014 isn't ever going to get done. My arthritic fingers aren't up to driving a needle a million times, or however many tiny stitches a kilt requires. I...

I'd like to get my hands on a few yards of wool Hunting Stewart in ancient or otherwise subdued shades. Lochcaron's shades are what I have in mind, although others would do. Not looking to deal...

Im digging the king's hounds tooth jacket. If i had greater call for a jacket when kilted I'd definitely want one like it. It certainly isn't something that passes for traditional highland dress...

It will be a difficult search, but I recall some time ago one of the rable posted pics of his Jacobite era fashion. It was all made by a kilt maker in France kown as Lady something or other, but I'm...
