An exciting project, John. I am of course interested.
PS I think I didn't get your '@' because you used an upper case C. I think user names are case sensitive.

Agreed. Out of all the options and attempts, I'd say this is the only one with a chance of pulling things back from the brink.

I have other things occupying my mind at the moment so I'll keep this short and hopefully coherent.
It is becoming apparent to me that Steve simply doesn't 'get it' with regards to the cultural...

You're quite right John, it does indeed (I have a sample of the cloth in front of me right now).

That was something that crossed my mind. If I were to go down that route I would want to produce something that is as close to the original as possible, so a replica, if you like. I don't really see...

I am not knowledgeable enough to comment on the details of the finishing process, however I can confirm that the photos of the cloth as delivered look very similar to how it looked on the loom.

Hi Peter,
Here's a shot of the cloth still on the loom, 'in-the-grease'.
As far as I am aware, the cloth was simply washed, there were no other finishing processes applied.

With the correct resources & management there is no reason why the domestic cat genes can't be bred out of the population. Even if there are no pure bred cats left, they can be 'recreated' by...

My heart goes out to the poor fellow. I'm afraid I can't say more than that and still stay within forum rules.

You've reached the limit of my knowledge of Gaelic, but going from Nathan's Wikipedia quote above...
The plural is most commonly sgian-dubhs (in its various spellings) but sgians-dubh is also...

In gaelic, the adjective does not mutate.

I don't think it is actually asymmetrical, though there are fine dark lines which are not centered on the slightly wider red band, if that's what you mean.

John Orionson I can't thank you enough for letting me be a part of this project. Having the provenance of the tartan, seeing the cloth being woven before my eyes, getting to see, feel (and wear!) the...

Thanks Peter, I don't know where I got the idea in my head that Crotal was responsible for yellow colouring. I also confess to making a complete stab in the dark as to the order of the blue/yellow. I...

Yup, that seems to be the piece being played during the sequence in question. So there's your answer Martin, it's "Le Chiffre's Torture of the Mind" by Burt Bacharach. I wouldn't exactly categorise...

Hi,
Learning to play bagpipes, or even just the practice chanter, without a teacher is not a good idea. It is highly likely that you will teach yourself bad habits which you will later regret and...

Not a problem, I don't consider your posts as going astray, possibly because I'm a master of that art myself!
I think it's a matter of personal preference. For me, it takes a lot to beat an 8 yard...

It feels a LOT lighter, especially at the back. So much so that it was actually quite disconcerting at first. After a few minutes however, I got used to it and found it very comfortable indeed. Bear...

Hi Isaac,
No, I'm not. I have decided to go for a 'traditional' 8 yard knife pleated kilt, plus a bias-cut waistcoat and some red (not tartan) flashes made from off-cuts of the material....

Despite my 100% Scottish ancestry, if my connections to clans and tartans had their own Facebook page, their status would be ‘It’s complicated’. I had therefore, for quite some time, been trying to...

Ouch!!
That price is far higher than any I have ever seen in Scotland, even at today's prices, never mind 11 years ago.
How does that price compare with the maker's current prices? I assume that...
