I have made mine out of leather, and wear them with my dress leather kilt.

Well that's disappointing. I just went to the website and discovered four variations of the tartan. Not impressed!! The closest one to colour is the "Weavers Choice" Glad I have the original.

I would use a OLFA rotary cutter and straight edge. Basically all you need to do is cut two inches from the bottom all around. I would carefully measure up from the hem and mark it with a gel pen....
