While I have not finished reading this thread, I feel the need to make my opinion known.
I have my own idea of traditional highland civilian wear.
I'm American, I came to my heritage late. I...

An interesting observation. It took 20 years for me to purchase claret and mustard hose. Now I'm so much more open to color options. I even wore a yellow shirt with a red tie!

Jock, I understand completely! You need to remember that the final result must not offend the eye while looking in the mirror across the Atlantic Ocean.

If you are speaking of McMillan modern black, be advised that the clan chief does not recognize it as a clan tartan. One of the septs of McMillan complained to the chief after pictures of clan...

Ok, I've read this thread in it's entirety. (thank you Kilted Cole)
I'm significantly interested pending final design and cost.
Enough tartan for a kilt at minimum.

I know the other branches are in the works.
When I last spoke to the owner, he was altering the artwork for the USCG to be compliant with their current standards.

I have a phillabeg made by Celtic Croft in " brown watch".
It is my renfair kilt and I couldn't be more pleased.
The fabric has a rustic look and for me, the construction was spot on.
If you go...

OK, I've read the thread.
I have very little to add. To the sporran thing? I find your reasoning sound. I tend to wear my "semi-formal" sporran while in SAMS uniform, I have also worn it in the...

The buckle brogues are on order as we speak. As to the hair sporran, I think it looks great on others, but it just isn't quite my style.

In another thread I debated this very question. In a previous post I stated that I wasn't wealthy and this Inverness cape will have to serve double duty.
I would also say that in Minnesota during...

LOL rich is one thing I am not. I had the good fortune to parlay one old hobby into a new one.

I mentioned a while back that I had ordered a doublet and Inverness cape.
(All ordered through the Celtic Croft)
So without further ado, the pictures....

No one has mentioned the sheer fun involved in tartan hunting.
It becomes even more interesting the more you know. A couple of examples might be in order.
