I'll be there throwing on Sat, in the B class. We'll probably be heading up to Phoenix right after the games, but come by and see me on the field.

I'll be there Sat. November 1st. Throwing in the B's. I'll probably be wearing a Black Watch SWK Thrifty.
Anyone else going to be there?

Ryan, if you haven't been told we moved practice to Saturday's. Jeff made a new website, still very much a work in progress but it has the schedule up.

If you guys aren't putting your scores in the NASGA database I strongly suggest you do. Not only does it give you a nice record, but it helps to compare yourself to others in your class.
What I...

I'm losing weight over the next several months, with the goal being to lose 60 lbs. I'll be practicing pretty much every weekend too, doing a full games clinic with all nine events.
I'm...

Quite trying to throw it behind you, just worry about throwing it *UP*. It'll go backwards on it's own. You're also probably turning to look at where the bag goes too. Don't worry about, the...

Absolutely you should compete, even if you've never done the event before. There always has to be a first time right? It's not like most of us have cabers in their backyards to practice with. (Ok,...

Yeah, immediately what I notice is you are way too upright, your arms are shortening to bring the hammer around, and your low point isn't being controlled. For all that it isn't that bad.
I...

Hammers are more about technique than any other event I think, except maybe the Caber. Do you have any video of you throwing the hammers? If so, post it so we can take a look at it.

I've got to say I never expected to see gators in S. Dakota.

Unfortunately I'm not going to make it after all. Too far, gas is too high, and I spent too much already this year in travel. I should make Tucson this November though.
-
It's probably this one. I'm pretty sure you can figure out why.

Yup, that's what it takes. Good job still, I threw an 85 ft light hammer at Tucson last year and then I didn't break 80 ft again until earlier this year. Some days you have it, some you don't. ...

I got one this weekend, and I very nearly got two! I not only broke my goal of 70 ft in the heavy hammer, I blew right past it and had a 75 foot throw!! Just to prove it wasn't a fluke, I also...

I'll definitely be there. I'm not sure what the plans are just yet. I think I'll be there both days, competing one and cheering on my brother in law and some friends on the other.

Great write ups guys. I'll be posting my normal photo/video write up like normal later, but we just got home tonight. It's been a LONG weekend and there is much to do.
Thanks for the pictures...

Awesome Alan. I'll be following along with your journey too. I hope you have good luck, and I hope even more you never need to use it!
Have a blast and write up a journal for us to read...

It looks good. I need to get a couple Thrifties for competing in the Games.
Don't take offense, it none is meant but in that photo you look a bit like Darren from Miami Ink.

Oh no! I didn't mean there are 150 competitors registered for the next games! I meant there are currently about 150 C class athletes from all over that have input scores into the NASGA database.

Depends. At Seaside for example, they have onsite RV camping and people camping out in the vendor parking lot. Definitely lots of late night get togethers there. Other games are much more...

This may be the last time I'm on the board before the Games. I'm leaving tomorrow evening to drive up there, and we'll be there through Monday morning. Friday we're golfing during the day (the...

Shoot, between the competitions and when I was selling Utilikilts, I've been to around 40 Highland Games in the past six years or so. I've been able to SEE three of them.
I've seen the Pomona...

You'll see my name on there quite a few times. Joshua Hocieniec.
An even better resource is the NASGA database. It has results from Games all across the country (world even) and will give you a...

A 35' in the Open stone is definitely a B class throw, and if you're turning 12:00's on a C caber you can probably move up to the B caber too.
Do you remember your other distances? Have you...

I'll say it again Ryan, good job! I still remember the first caber I flipped.
I'll be up in Monterey next weekend, but I hope to see you in practice the following week. Congrats!!
