Hi everyone,
With most of my traditional kilts, there's a reverse pleat on the right hip on the under apron. (I believe that is the correct term.) On some of my traditional kilts, this reverse...

Steve,
This should be a sticky someplace. I'd also like your permission to put it on Kilts & Culture ... or if you would? I think you have a solid argument here. I'm fully honest and open that...

Troy,
Looks nice! I've lost even more weight since the last kilt you sold me so I'm sorry that it might hang a bit strangely (I'm now a 33-ish in waist and 39-ish inch hips). Whoever buys this...

The belted plaid/great kilt/féileadh an bhreacáin/féileadh mór is an interesting garment. I have some videos on how I put it on (not necessarily historically accurate but it's what I tend to do) and...

Exactly. There are a number of talented folks to help either make you one or for you to purchase.

Your jacket is wonderful and looks fabulous and I'd hate to see it chopped up! While some jacket conversions can go well, I would humbly suggest not cutting up that sweet jacket and instead get a...

If you don't mind, I'd like to say that I think you could look really good but ... while the waistcoat could work (but is still a tad long), the jacket simply doesn't work at all. Those jackets are...

Or, if one wished to go look at vintage Highland-wear, it would be clear that North Americans tend to have a matchy-matchy thing going on but Highland wear ... not so much. :)
The tie is a nice...

Hi! I believe I've seen those vests on Amazon. I purchased one to try but it didn't suit. But it looks good on you. Doesn't interfere with the sporran either, which is a goal.
Guluck.

Steve,
If I may toss in my own thoughts, I would very much like to read your book.

Howie Nicholsby often provides kilt hose with his kilts. I have one of his kilts and some of the hose and am wondering if any of you have some of his hose that you'd be willing to part with. I've...

While I don't have the Antarctic tartan, I do have a kilt made in the Arctic tartan!

Perhaps I'm being finicky but I didn't assume that the belted plaid had a fringe but rather suspected simply based on my limited experience wearing something roughly and remotely similar to what was...

Gotcha. I tend to be also be moving towards simplicity: 4-yard box pleated kilts with two straps (or twill ties) and no fringe. No belt, no kilt pin. I like the simplicity.

Thanks!
Further on the topic: I've seen some older-styled kilts that have the right-hand apron edge folded back on itself once, then stitched in, w/o fringe. Most of my modern traditional kilts...

Comrades,
Do we know the origins of the right-hand fringe? I suspect it's an attempt to mimic the edge of the belted plaid; as an occasional wearer of the belted plaid, a fringe has naturally...
